Many students have been asking me about UPASS and ISHIP refunds during internships. Here I'll share my experience and the specific procedures.

1. UPASS退费 | UPASS Refund

条件 | Conditions

只要这学期选了ENGR 601就可以退，依据是华盛顿大学工程学院Career Center网址中的说明：

As long as you're enrolled in ENGR 601 this semester, you can get a refund. This is based on the UW Engineering Career Center website:

Are there other fees associated with ENGR 321 / 601?
No. The course fee listed in the table should be all that is assessed to your account. Fees like IMA and UPASS should not be added to your account while you are doing a full-time internship. If IMA or UPASS fees are erroneously added to your account, contact UW Transportation services (transportation.uw.edu) or the IMA (washington.edu/ima) directly. If your tuition assessment is incorrect, email engrint@uw.edu.

申请方式 | How to Apply

官方说的是发邮件给 transportation@uw.edu，但是我之前都是发给 ucommute@uw.edu，你们可以试试都发。

The official instruction says to email transportation@uw.edu, but I've always sent it to ucommute@uw.edu. You can try sending to both.

参考邮件内容 | Email Template:

Subject: Request to Remove U PASS fee

Dear UW Transportation Officer,

I am currently enrolled in the ENGR 601 internship course for summer 2025. My Official Tuition Charge Statement includes a $70 U PASS fee, which should not be applied for a full-time internship according to https://www.engr.washington.edu/current/careercenter/intern. 

Could you please assist in removing this fee?

Thank you for your assistance.

TIPS: 即使当时已经缴费了，也可以通过发邮件退费，会给你寄70刀支票（亲身经历）

TIPS: Even if you've already paid, you can still get a refund by sending an email. You'll receive a $70 check (personal experience).

2. ISHIP保险退费 | ISHIP Insurance Refund

申请网站 | Application Website

ISHIP保险退费是在 https://iship.washington.edu/insurance-program/insurance-waiver/ 这个网站填表申请。

ISHIP insurance refund is applied through the form on the website above.

我的经验 | My Experience

我当时是在国内实习，所以没提供美国的保险就能退费。

I was doing my internship in China at the time, so I was able to get the refund without providing US insurance.

如果在美国实习，可能需要公司提供的保险符合一定的要求才能退，具体参考页面，我也没这个经验。

If you're interning in the US, you might need company-provided insurance that meets certain requirements for the waiver. Check the website for details - I don't have experience with this.
